they must often change, those who would be constant in happiness or wisdom.

-confucious

those of you who are my faithful blog readers will notice some changes going on around here.  my readership is increasing, which is uber cool - but also a skosh creepy.  we have little ones who are and will always be my first priority, so there's going to be some anonymousization of this blog.

HENCEFORTH the girls will be known as my stepdaughter "Princess" and my daughter "Kitten."  you might recognize these names from the 1950s television show "Father Knows Best"--and it still leaves room in our family for a little "Bud" if J has his way - but the odds seem overwhelming that we'll end up with a second "Kitten."  that's a long way away, though, so don't get your hopes up.

everyone else will be referred to in whatever way makes sense at the time.

absence makes the heart grow fonder

or at least i hope so. i have no excuse for my lack of blogging lately. it was going so well - regular posts, a variety of topics - and then *poof!* i got uber-busy and it just fell by the wayside.

i'm going to try to do better. i promise. more later.

read

it occurs to me that i'm not really reading the book down there on the right-hand column anymore. it's still sitting on my nightstand, but i haven't picked it up in months.

i don't read a lot of books these days - i do most of my reading online. if you want to know what i'm reading, click on my links. plus cnn.com and msn.com. i visit most of them daily. or more than daily. except god.vishnu.whatever because he never updates. *ahem*

more later. i think i might have some pictures to post tonight. if you're good.

the obligatory first post

i have Blog Envy. there are a handful of blogs that i read every week - college friends, family members, blogs that are related to my profession, blogs for sheer entertainment. i adore them. every time something funny happens in my day-to-day, i think about how i wish i had a blog so i could share it with everyone. but then i come home and zone out to reruns of MythBusters on the DVR while i peruse BoingBoing on my MacBook, and the next thing you know the evening is shot.

'sides, i could pick up the phone and call ya'll, but i'm lazy like that.

i have aspirations that i'll post regularly - weekly, daily? but in reality, let's just hope that i don't lose interest after the first three posts.

baby steps. i'm easily distracted.
