halloween pictures

***do my horizontal pictures run off the right margin on anyone else's screen?  let me know.  i have horrible problems with the html formatting on blogger, but i'm not sure if it's a mac problem or a blogger problem, or my template.  it's frustrating and i expect more from a google app.

halloween is jake's favorite holiday.
this year he was a vampire.
i did the makeup.

he already has the long hair.  if we'd powdered it white, he would have been positively lestat-like.

autumn, along with 1,947, 245.09 other six-year-old girls, was hannah montana.

after i got her makeup and wig on, she walked around the house for fifteen minutes looking in all the mirrors and exclaiming, "i can't BELIEVE how GOOD i look!"

aislinn was a black cat, thanks to my dear friend celia in cleveland (cleveland, ohio, not cleveland, oklahoma), who sent her a costume - great timing, as i hadn't had time to get out and buy her one.  what kind of muddah am i?

(the egyptian-esque eyeball earrings i'm wearing are also a CeliaCreation.)

the costume was a hit.  celia saves the day (the night?).

jake and autumn trick-or-treated around our neighborhood while aislinn and i handed out candy, and then we jumped in the car to raid erin and jeff's neighborhood of cheap, waxy chocolate.

and speaking of raiding neighborhoods of candy (and never being one to miss a chance to talk about politics), the Halloween Curmudgeon Of The Year Award for 2008 goes to this woman in Gross Pointe Farms, Michigan, who refused to give out candy to any children who were obama supporters or the children of obama supporters.

i guess she's got a point, though.  spreading candy around to ALL the children would be socialism.

am i right? am i right?

moving on.

autumn spent the night with erin and jeff.  here, aunt erin allowed autumn to make up her face with wax makeup.

aunt erin is way more brave than me.

do you see that glob of yellow and black goo on autumn's finger? when she got done, erin looked like an overzealous pittsburgh steelers fan.

at erin and jeff's we bobbed for apples and watched scary movies.  i'd never actually bobbed for apples before.  i'd liken it to water boarding.  forget that, man.

and then we made caramel apples but i fell asleep before they were ready.  i knew it was time to go when autumn told erin, "i can't wait until my parents leave so we can stay up late!"

it was almost midnight at the time.  her usual bedtime is eight thirty.

all hail the power of halloween candy on the blood sugar levels of a kindergartener.

****
what is this strange piece of fabric you have wrapped me in?

i don't know quite how i feel abou-
OH! LOOK! MY HAND!

nooooomyhandisnotwhatiwant!

much better.

***
next on the calendar is *my* favorite holiday, thanksgiving!  it's just like christmas but without all the presents.  and really, i can do without the presents.  not that i don't love giving/receiving, but honestly it's just too much.  too much stress, too much money, too much credit card debt, too much guilt, too many expectations.  thanksgiving's where it's at: you get all the food, all the family time, and none of the other crap.  yay!

AAAAAAAAaaand last but not least, a shout out to my friend mike wyatt who called me on saturday afternoon from the queue at the obama rally in springfield, missouri to tell me that he was standing in the queue at the obama rally in springfield, missouri.

my jealousy is so ugly.

YAY TUESDAY!
